thank you to over 11,000 of you who read this weekly and share with your friends and family for behind the scenes on building a million dollar business from scratch and beyond.
i also include a personal note in the end so i am grateful that you let me do that without judgement.
we just entered the 3rd year of our business.
last week’s revenue exceeded the entire first year revenue and it certainly was a team effort.
while that all sounds good, we also did a big reset on the team.
to summarize, here are my 3 lessons from two years building a new business:
focus is everything
speed creates momentum
every so often, you have to restart everything
let me drill into the restart idea a little.
every so often, we simply become status quo in some part of the business until it starts breaking.
when it breaks, the normal reaction is someone didn’t do their job.
but in reality, it might simply be bcos someone was not focused on it.
if we can learn to restart, they can get back to focus on the right things and we are back in business.
when you have the right team, the goal as a leader is to make sure everyone is going in the right direction.
that’s it.
that’s where focus and speed meet.
if you are experiencing lack of speed and focus in your business, you need a restart.
but remember to restart with love - which is giving direct feedback and working as if you are FOR them and not AGAINST your own team.
that’s what builds trust which drives speed and focus.
on a personal note, Kiara had her second singles match with a tough opponent.
i saw Kiara slipping and pushing the ball as opposed to hitting the ball well, as she normally would.
she looked a bit nervous and a little sloppy at times.
but then when the score was 3-3, she shared (later after the match) that she remembered that she didn’t prayed before the match.
you see, we encourage both Krish and Kiara, to always kneel down and pray to thank God for their abilities and the opportunity to play right before the match starts.
we want the kids to know that they “get” to play tennis and it’s a privilege not a right.
so at 3-3 she said she prayed in her heart and said “restart” to herself.
since then, she started to hit the ball the way she normally does and started winning.
she won the match 8-6 and as you can imagine, i could hardly contain myself.
the joy of seeing the kids come back from their struggle with a life lesson is all we can ask for.
restart - is a very powerful idea!
every day there are countless choices when we can choose to simply restart.
leader point: in business and in life, restart as often as you can to get your focus and speed back into action.
Thanks for this one, Sangram! The restart idea is a great reminder, and I love the example of faith you shared to put it in perspective beyond business.
