thank you to over 11,000 of you who read this weekly and share with your friends and family for behind the scenes on building a million a 5 million dollar business from scratch and beyond.
i also include a personal note in the end so i am grateful that you let me do that without judgement.
there is a huge difference between focus and testing.
i have learned this the hard way.
if you have followed along, you know that i started writing this note when we didn’t even have an idea.
the goal was to build something and document the learnings along the way.
as we approach $3M this year, i discovered something really big in just the last few weeks:
we now have multiple products
we now have multiple lines of business
funny thing is… we didn’t plan for it.
we simply focused on where the money was.
even though we wanted to do more advisory work in the beginning, we ended up doing more events and research sponsorships.
as a result the advisory business never grew too much but at the same time, it helped us to remain profitable.
so while we focused on where the money was and continue to do so, we have always been testing new ways of revenue stream.
now we have 3 lines of business - not all are profitable - but all are options that gives us leverage to grow.
big lesson: i believe most businesses fail early because they are focused on their outcomes - what they want to sell and be - we should let the market decide.
big idea: i believe more businesses will do well, if they focus on what customers want while testing new ways to grow - if the money continues to come, you buy time to keep testing on what might work.
don’t get me wrong - a single product focused business can work but my latest learning is that the probability is 1 in a 10,000.
on a personal note, last year i had a chance to share my faith in a public setting to over 1,500 people as part of high-tech ministries.
i have never been more nervous and grateful, all at the same time.
just a couple of days ago they released the video of my talk and it’s deeply personal.
take a listen if you want to see all the hard stuff and behind the curtain on who i really am and all the mistakes i have made.
i was focused on me in the last business.
now i am focused on the Lord, my family, my team that creates legacy.
leader point: when you focus on growth, your growth becomes your calling.
Congrats on your growth to $3 million! Things are always fluid - whether it is a new business or an established one ! As Bruce Lee says ..be like water .."Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves"
