week 15: the hard thing about soft things
when soft things are talked through, hard things become easy
last week we had our 2nd offsite (team of 5 members now) and here is what we did the night before.
we rented a beautiful Airbnb.
got some dinner and then we did the soft thing.
talked about us, as humans.
we spent the entire evening talking about this:
what are two life events/things/people that you are grateful for
what is something you love about one of the team members
what is something you wish that same team member did more of or better
there were emotions.
there was love.
maybe a soft tear.
there was a bond created.
now we know why someone loves managing projects and why someone is a dreamer or driver or a doer.
now we know the human behind the fancy title and what shaped them to be who they are.
now we are ready to work together.
on a personal note:
as a family, we do this for now almost 3 years.
every Saturday we write cards as a family to each other and last week, we wrote apology cards for things we did or said that we should apologize for but didn’t.
you know the soft thing (apology), can make hard things (life) better.
i asked everyone (myself, my wife, and two kids) to write an apology card(s).
i had an apology card for everyone including Jesus.
kids wrote for each other.
those little words on a piece of paper to someone you love but never said came out.
it broke tears and it created a moment of peace.
that’s love.
Leaderpoint: When we get these soft things right, we can run through walls for the hard things.
what are the soft things that have been hard to break through for you?
Love this! Build your business by first building trust!
I did such activities regularly with my team in my previous job.
We once did an activity where each one had to write two things they love about each person in the team and read it out loud.
It created such a strong bond amongst the team members, I never faced issues of backbiting, politics etc.
