ok… this really funny.
at least to me.
15 weeks of testing and doing pure consulting and fractional Chief GTM Officer work — that pays good money only to make us realize we are not good at it.
actually, we suck at it.
so we had to go thru some soul searching leading us to ask this very important question:
what are we really good at that no one can simply copy?
in other words, what my old boss and good friend Tim Kopp will ask - “what is our lane of genius?”
so here is what we landed on (some of it just self-talk too :)):
Creating frameworks with a new point of view on the market - after all we have started companies, movements, and written three books, created frameworks, and over 10,000 jobs in the market just through our companies and partners.
Building communities - we created flipmyfunnel and peak community that continue to thrive even today. FlipMyFunnel became the top 50 business podcast that is now converted to MOVE podcast. And Peak Community is the invite-only community for emerging CMOs and CEOs to become better CMOs and CEOs of the future.
Sharing experiences - we have done 100s of events to challenge the status quo and promoted the idea of ABM and Marketing automation over decades so bringing people together to not only inspire but take action is one of the most natural things we do.
well, that’s it.
now here’s the plain truth.
we would have NOT felt strongly about these three things if we didn’t mess with pure consulting to know that we are not that good at it.
so here we are — very clearly ready to move in a direction of our lane of genius.
what does your lane of genius look like?
with the renewed energy to focus on the things that make us unique and excited with our purpose to do the best work of our lives - in the coming weeks, you will see us introduce a manifesto, a state of…, and a roadshow to the market.
on a personal note:
like most kids in summer, my daughter and her friend wanted to do a lemonade stand.
well… in the beginning holding a sign didn’t do any good.
so the kids recruited other kids to do marketing and sales (which runs in the family as you can imagine)
they actually went to the swimming pool with the sign letting everyone know that the best lemonade stand has just arrived which brought other kids out and therefore their parents out to buy lemonades.
and then they went door to door trying to sell the smiles and enthusiasm with a side of lemonade.
Bottom line: Don’t wait for the market to come to you. you go and create the market for yourself.
the kids made a whopping $20 and then whatever was remaining they went and served to the lifeguard and other families.
Leaderpoint: Doing it wrong to getting it right is how you find your lane of genius.
now, what is your or your business’s lane of genius and what are you doing about it?
I love this, Sangram. Double down on what you're uniquely good at and enjoy. Looking forward to seeing the manifesto, etc.
God bless you guys as you’re figuring this all out.
