i was listening to my one of fav podcast which is from Andy Stanley on leadership and he talked the most underutilized and misunderstood two words:
Thank You
as i leaned in here is what i am trying to practice more practically the idea of thank you in 3 simple ways:
specific (the more detailed the better)
public (no matter who you are, everyone loves and needs to be heard)
honest (don’t when it’s not authentic or good - call it out)
examples on how to do it:
i write 5 hand written cards each Friday (to team members, people on LinkedIn who engaged, people who presented at the roadshow or i had an inspiration from)
take pics and share it with the speakers to share
in our team slack channel, we have a celebrate wins topic and i try to randomly put comments sharing what i appreciated of another person in the moment
thank you with specificity is the most undervalued asset in the leader’s world.
on a personal note, this is big week in the Vajre’s household!
our little daughter has accepted Jesus in her heart and is going to be baptized literally today. It’s also her birthday weekend so it’s even better as this is her decision.
she even wrote a note of what she is going to say at her party and guess what - it includes a thank you in it for listening to her story.
pray for her as she made the biggest decision of her life so early and staying on it is not going to be easy in current polarizing worldviews.
leader point: in a world where performance is everything, a thank you that is specific can make someone’s week if not just that day.
don’t underestimate the power of thank you.
right now you might need to send a note to someone saying thank you but not just a casual thank you - be specific.
