week 31: without a community, you are simply a commodity
everyone can build a product but not everyone can build a community
i just got a email from one of our customers after a 3 city tour go-to-market roadshow
“Thanks for creating the platform, the community, as well as the shared open and welcoming attitude for us all to connect!”
just look at the picture after our half day session in San Francisco.
the people you see in this picture are CMOs, CROs, VP of GTM, CEOs all trying to learn how to create efficient growth and i for one was simply amazed by the willingness of people to share and learn together.
we literally called one of our sessions - “therapy session” because more than anything, people want to feel that they are not alone.
as we are building this new business, we are extremely intentional about community first mindset.
to that end, we partnered up with Women in Revenue, Product Marketing Community, and PEAK communities that led to bringing amazing leaders together city after city.
in my last company, we ended up building a community of 100,000 people across events, podcast and virtual teaching.
for this business, i think our own go-to-market motion is also community-led that we believe will create massive outcome for everyone involved.
on a personal note, coming back Saturday morning at 3 am in the morning from the long travel, it only made sense to spend the entire day with family walking, eating ice-cream and being intentional.
every month or so, we do father daughter and mother son date.
same restaurant, both me and my son are dress up to take our loved ones on a date but sit on different tables.
it’s exciting.
it’s beautiful.
it’s intentional.
it’s the most important thing i can do and i must do.
i think of my family is my community and without being intentional of my time with them, it’s a missed opportunity to do what God has gifted me with - which is my family.
leaderpoint: without a community, you are simply a commodity.
how intentional are you of your time?
I’m learning community building by watching you do it.
