thank you to over 11,000 of you who read this weekly and share with your friends and family for behind the scenes on building a million dollar business from scratch and beyond. i also include a personal note in the end so i am grateful that you let me do that without judgement.
to-date we have done 6 GTM made simple roadshows and each time when we travel, i try to travel in twos.
in the remote world, every single interaction is agenda based.
there is reason why you set a zoom call.
we hardly catch on life but even harder is to go deeper on any idea given the time bound nature of these meetings.
when traveling you are laughing, eating, going tangent that leads back to a bigger ah-ha! moment, you connect and learn about what the other person likes or dislikes.
you really learn a lot.
i think everyone as part of their hiring process should do a travel trip for a day, stay at an AirBnB and by the time they come back, either they will be best friends or they will learn how to work with the other person.
i firmly believe that traveling and hiring in twos makes learning and trusting faster.
on a personal note, my son has been struggling to work thru his tennis coaching.
he has 1:1 training now with his coach and the coach is a drill sergeant.
the coach is young and expects hard work, perfection and would literally make you do pushups the whole time if you don’t hit the ball correctly or in the area he expects to be.
he practically will yell at you.
quite frankly, i love it.
i would pay extra for something like this because i think we all are living in a very soft society.
i worry about the next generation because the only thing that one should never shy away from is hard work.
it’s the foundation for better life.
everyone wants to be the greatest but only a few get there… why?
could one of the difference be simply good old ability to work hard consistently?
as i was talking about this with my son, he said something really interesting:
“Papa, i am scared.”
to me, i never heard this before from him.
i asked him why and we tried to dig deeper.
he said, “Papa, this is next level, and i am not used to playing like this.”
and that was profound to me and worth celebrating.
in life, if you are not getting stretched then you are not learning and growing.
that’s what’s happening with him now and i can see it on his face.
instead of telling him to buckle up and get your game face on, i continued to share that i am scared of running a business.
i don’t know if i will be able to do this sometimes.
i wonder if i would let my family and my teammates down by not making good business decisions.
sometimes, i feel sick in my stomach before meetings.
i fear my lack of leadership in many areas that can cost us as a team.
sometimes, i feel i don’t belong and everything is a sham.
he was surprised because he never heard me verbalize my fear (there’s a lesson for me somewhere).
so now, both of our goal is to get ready with joy for the next season of our life.
embrace that we need to play at a new level and that will require us to do these three things as we trust in God for the talent he has provided us:
don’t be lazy
believe in ourselves that we can do it
play high-percentage game
now we are traveling in two as father and son on this journey of life expecting joy in the moment of trial, fully trying to embrace the next season of our life.
so guess what, traveling is not just limited to airplanes and trains.
you can do this with people you live and work today and experience the joy of it even though it very difficult in the moment.
leaderpoint: what scares you should drive you.
Love it!
Loved the share and remembered this quote “Taking on a challenge is a lot like riding a horse, isn’t it?
If you’re comfortable while you’re doing it,
probably doing it wrong”
