thank you to over 11,000 of you who read this weekly and share with your friends and family for behind the scenes on building a million dollar business from scratch and beyond.
i also include a personal note in the end so i am grateful that you let me do that without judgement.
in the last 3 weeks, i had on an average of 6-8 sales calls per day.
that’s on top of my CEO job, events, travel, and writing.
in the first week, i was completely zapped and i came to a Friday meeting with the team and they could see it on my face.
my entire team, literally took it on themselves to help me out and have taken the setting up meetings, to follow ups to support the sales process so we all can do the best work on our lives.
while it has been exhausting, it was been rewarding.
it has been team and character building exercise.
what i have learned is it’s not about having more time.
no one has too much time anyway.
i was lacking time management.
i am getting better with time management, even after 6-8 calls of 30 mins each and with my team engaged, it didn’t feel like a drain.
actually, i come out excited.
in many ways, Q2 has been the second biggest quarter for us financially and it was all about managing our time and getting focused on what matters.
not completely there but here are a few ideas for you:
if you have 3-4 back to back meetings, block 30 mins to catch up and breathe
take better notes so you can follow up better (never email that says great call, talk soon… that’s when people ghost you)
always have a follow up meeting set before the call ends to move the deal forward in sales
leave every call with clarity on ownership
on a personal note, our son Krish turned 13 - yup, legit teenager.
there is a running joke in Christian circles that goes something like this since we all are created in God’s image and sometimes disobey him.
here it is:
Dad to son when the son was disobeying him directly - do you know why teenagers like you were created?
son - why?
Dad - so that when your own son or daughter, who is created in your own likeness and image, completely disobeys you and deny the very existence of you inspite of all that your parents provide. Since mankind disobeys God, we have teenagers to remind us of how God must feel when we do the same to him.
i am pretty sure every teenage parent gets it :)
well, in order to get ahead of it, we decided to embarrass our kid by going on a trip together and wearing this as parents and sister of the “official teenager”.
well, he took it pretty well…
someone else reminded me recently that 98% of the time you spend with you kids is by the age of 16 and then it’s really just 2% here and there for rest of your life.
well - that gets me back to the idea of time management.
we all have limited time so i am trying to spend evenings in walks, vacation, creating experiences, Saturday time to write cards as family and share lessons, long weekend car drives to simple connect and make the most of the 98% of the time that i do have left.
wonder how you manage time at work and in life?
leaderpoint: the enemy is not time, it’s time management.
