thank you to over 11,000 of you who read this weekly and share with your friends and family for behind the scenes on building a million dollar business from scratch and beyond.
i also include a personal note in the end so i am grateful that you let me do that without judgement.
sometimes it feels like 100% of the job of a leader is to make decisions, faster.
decision to support a budget item or not.
decision to hire or not.
decision to fire or not.
the thing I have learned the hard way is that, the harder the decision, the sooner you have to make it.
the longer you wait, the harder it gets.
recently, we just changed our entire pricing and packaging to reflect what we want to sell and once we did it, it became 2x easier to have that conversation with the customer.
but we spent the whole year, not changing it because it was a hard decision.
every hard decision i have ever made, it has take 2x longer and made me 2x more miserable.
On a personal note, we are back at tennis tournament.
Krish and i decided that we will play the tournament differently.
instead of trying to win on every shot with a winner, we will do this:
first 3 balls are all about getting a rhythm so just get the ball over the net without sloppy shots or trying to go for winners.
during the first 3 balls, try to move the opponent side to side so you are in control of the point
after 3 shots, is now when you look for a opportunity to go for the kill but only if it’s a short ball or easy volley
now, of course, Krish did do that every single ball but i could see he was trying.
and the funny thing is, Krish wasn’t the strongest player in the tournament.
the result: he won the tournament pretty convincingly.
the hard decision that we made early was to stay calm, focus on the process and not the point, and have a strategy.
at the end of the day, you simply have to believe in yourself and God who has given us strength to do it well.
commitment to make the hard decision early to simply believe and execute is name of the game in life and in business.
leaderpoint: believe.
p.s. book writing is also a decision. I wrote 3 books and each time, i could have done it sooner. so i am doing a fun project to help authors write books and get it published. Heck, i want someone to walk away with a book deal. It’s not free (so not for everyone) and all the details are here but if you are someone who have a book in you, this might be just the right time. Make you decision and believe.
This is so wise. As leaders it’s our job to make the tough decisions, so it makes sense that delaying those decisions may lead to more needless or avoidable challenges. Congrats to your som for winning the tournament, and also, thank you for considering me for the book retreat!
Great read this morning. Professionally I would make decisions quickly but as you said take time. I started to taken time before implementing a new tactic rather than rush forward and it has worked. Management might not be happy with slow decisions but once I explain they are on board. Personally I play golf and sometimes I rush into a shot but am going to try and slow down and kick shots wisely. Rather than go for the pin all time time and play miserably but maybe lay up and then go for pin. Will give it a go today.
