thank you to over 11,000 of you who read this weekly and share with your friends and family for behind the scenes on building a million dollar business from scratch and beyond.
i also include a personal note in the end so i am grateful that you let me do that without judgement.
when i started GTM Partners with my cofounders, it was always about building something meaningful and make money.
anyone else who says that they want to just add value and not make money, i have learned the hard way that they are simply lying to themselves.
the point of building any business is the create value for your customers and in the process make money.
but if money becomes more important than adding value, your business will suffer.
so personally i have developed this philosophy of starting with the end in mind which i like to call - finishing WELL.
here’s what WELL stands for:
W = Walk in the word and will of God (keep God first, everything else second)
E = Endure trials, hardship, and persecution (do the right thing, no matter what)
L = Let go of all anger, distrust, and malice for others (forgive and forget often)
L = Love sacrificially and unconditionally (love like Jesus)
i have found that when i start with finishing well as my goal, i can sleep better at night.
taking this idea further, i think about ending every conversation at work, every sales call, and every client call on a note that allows us to finish well.
if we finish well a conversation, then it’s likely that we will finish the day well.
if we finish well a day, then it’s likely that we will finish the week well.
if we finish well a week, then it’s likely that we will finish the year well.
if we finish well a year, then it’s likely that we will finish the life well.
it’s truly a way of life that is focused on finishing every moment of life, well.
on a personal note, my family loves our mail carrier guy.
he is always nice and will go the extra mile to drop packages at the front door and have smile on his face and say hi to our kids.
for Christmas, our family had a gift for him but he was already going around in the neighborhood.
so we followed him around and finally stopped him to give the gift.
for a second, he was worried, as to why this car is following him but then was happy to know we had a gift for him.
and the next day, he dropped this letter to us and we have it now as part of our collection.
James knows how to finish well.
he finishes each of his mail drop well.
he finishes his job well.
he finished his day well.
as a result, i believe he is going to finish his life well.
and as i think the world around us, i believe we need to carry the message of finishing well, just like James carries our letters.
leader point: in business and in life, if your focus is to finish well, you will enjoy the journey every step of the way.
