thank you to over 11,000 of you who read this weekly and share with your friends and family for behind the scenes on building a million dollar business from scratch and beyond.
i also include a personal note in the end so i am grateful that you let me do that without judgement.
most of us are not specific enough to make change happen.
as a team, we post daily 3 things to do in our slack.
but i noticed that over a period of time, it became something like this:
3 sales calls
2 internal meetings
work on operations
well that tells me, i personally have not been specific enough and as a result, i am seeing the same continue for the team.
i am realizing that i am not leading by example.
so starting last week, i am trying to be more specific bcos the goal of this is to not show that you are “working” but to give insights into “what” you are working on so other team members can help, ask questions, or celebrate.
this is what my 3 things to do is going to start looking like:
3 sales calls (1 new, 2 follow up on advisory product)
2 internally meetings (demand session to create $1M pipeline and website redesign session)
set up healthcare and contracts for early payment processing
i am sure the difference is evident and the team can hopefully do the same.
in a remote world and constant communication via email/slack, i am realizing that being specific is more important than ever.
on a personal note, Krish is back in a tournament and he won the first two matches.
the next two matches tomorrow are going to be tough, as expected.
we both agreed that we won’t just try to do our best - that is too generic of a goal to have going into high stakes game.
instead, we agreed to be specific.
the entire goal of the tournament is for Krish to learn to step in and take time off the opponent to win quick points.
most kids hang around the baseline and keep swinging 20 ball rally until one gives up or makes an error.
as he grows, that’s not how professionals play. they go in for the kill when the ball is short and take time away from the opponent.
if you can’t be specific enough in the timing of this, game over.
for the last week he practiced that and now it’s show time.
the cool moment was when after the match, he asked - “did you see that?” and i knew exactly what he was talking about. he wanted me to see how well he stepped in the match.
we didn’t talk about the scores or anything, just that specific action and enjoyed a growth moment.
BTW - i have also started to include prayer as part of my daily update to the team that is either for the team or family members and it’s very specific.
leader point: in business and in life, the reward is certain for the ones who can discipline themselves to be specific on what you want to accomplish and focus on it.
Specificity always wins!
love it Sangram - be specific - :)
