week 33: to start something, you have to stop something
the only way to start something new, is the stop something old
i am learning to stop doing what is easier and start doing what is hard.
It's a lot easier to criticize than to contribute.
It's a lot easier to do the work than ask for help.
It's a lot easier to answer than to ask a question.
It’s a lot easier to do more than to do less, better.
certainly no way close to perfect, but since my bias is towards actions, i struggle with all of these in a big way.
what i do know is this:
good teams make happy decisions.
great teams make hard decisions.
on a personal note, i think for the first time in life, i am not really worried about financial or spiritual growth - probably was the best year in both of these areas.
feels like i am on the right path - not perfect but growing in both areas of my life.
but keeping up with my physical health has been a tremendous challenge.
one thing we forget when we start something new is how much energy and self dedication it takes.
no one is telling you what to do, you can have to create your own “fires” and “projects” to create demand and sense of urgency.
there are nights when i am looking at a screen and lost figuring out the financials and playing with numbers that magically work and magically disappears.
you have to learn to tell stories to yourself and self talk like - “you got this- God is in control and HE has put you in this position to help your learn and grow.”
as a result, i have become very lazy on taking walks and exercising.
as the new year is right around the corner, i hope i can turn around way before my usual new year resolution of getting better health :)
any suggestions?
leaderpoint: greatness is achieved through hard decisions and not happy decisions.
I feel like we're on similar/parallel paths. I could relate to a lot of this. I recently started working with an online personal trainer through CoPilot and it's been a game-changer for me in terms of my physical health/focus. Fear of accountability had stopped me from signing up for a long time, but I realized that if I didn't do something different, I couldn't expect different results. And now that I've been working with someone for about 2 months, I'm loving the program we've created together along with the app that allows me to check in with my coach and keep my focus on what's important to me by checking off my daily habits.
Consider a walking pad for under a standup desk. Went from 1,000 steps a day to 15,000 just walking at 2.0 during conference calls. BOOM!
