thank you to over 11,000 of you who read this weekly and share with your friends and family for behind the scenes on building a million dollar business from scratch and beyond.
i also include a personal note in the end so i am grateful that you let me do that without judgement.
in business across the board the focus is on getting great and not just good.
why?
good is nice.
good is unnoticed.
good can be ignored.
but great…. that’s a whole new thing.
great is a choice.
great is an attitude.
great is a point of view.
here are few good vs great choices I have been making:
1. i cancelled my trip to speak at an event as a major speaker that is by invitation only bcos i knew it will boost my ego but not my business and team goals
2. i love doing podcast. actually did over 1000 episodes in 4 years but in the last two years i haven’t done a single new episode bcos just having fun is not building business. doing it for the right reasons would. i am still waiting on it and it’s hard to wait.
3. when my team is ready to ship a “product” - i would ask this simple question - “is this your best work?” or i would say - “i just want you to be proud of your work… is this one of that project?”
in each of the above scenarios, i believe, i am choosing to do great work and not just good work.
the difference between good and great, I believe, is simply this…
your point of view.
on a personal note, last week i realized i was a little bit burned out from work and my wife from the homeschool with kids.
i then had a 2 day Austin trip and felt that if i left without spending 1:1 time with my wife, things would get worse.
so on Wednesday, instead of going to Church, we dropped the kids there and went to get dinner.
as you start judging me… you won’t be wrong but this is also bcos Bible talks about first reconcile any conflict before offering your gift at the altar.
so as much as we both love going to our weekly Bible study on a Wednesday (we really do), we had to prioritize 1:1 time to talk thru things without the kids buzzing around us.
we both felt like a dark cloud was lifted off our shoulders and the rest was history.
we prayed together, talked, asked and forgave each other for some spicy comments in the last week and thanked Jesus for his grace and mercy upon us.
we can simply have a good relationship… but we want to have a great relationship with my wife and kids.
that takes effort.
that requires a point of view.
will this happen again…. of course it will.
but then again, i have to remember what do i want - good or great relationship?
leader point: in business and in life, your point of view will make you either good or great.
Love,
Sangram
Appreciate you, Sangram. Thanks for being transparent and honest about your struggles. I know first hand how difficult it is to be a husband, father and business owner - and my business isn’t anywhere near the scale yours is.
