Week 42: play 5 -Create a market movement
create artificial sense of urgency for decision making

last week, i shared about how to become a guide and create a standard as one of the 10 go-to-market principles that helped us go from 0 to million in 9 months with two different companies, in different markets with different economic times.

today, i want to share the part about how do you know it’s a real thing?
the question, i always get is how do you measure it?
how do you know it working?
how do you show roi?
story time:
at Terminus - we really started to talk about ABM (account-based marketing) in 2015 and when you do a google trends report, you can see the search continue to increase over time.
now was that just us? that really doesn’t matter.
what matters is there are tons more people talking about it and now it automatically demands a response.
there are people with job titles with ABM - never existed before 2015.
and that’s when you know you got a movement started.
the first FlipMyFunnel event had about 350 people. the last event i did before we merged the FlipMyFunnel event with B2BSMX event that happens every August we had over 1500 people show up.
there are 100s of agencies implementing ABM and companies building ABM products.
that’s how you know, it’s a market and a movement.
at GTM Partners -2021 onwards - in just one year, we are starting to see similar shift.
there are legit jobs with GTM in their title.
there are events like we do with Go-to-market made simple roadshow in Washington DC, Atlanta, San Francisco, Austin, Chicago, Toronto and Boston.
B2BSMX event in August - will doing a keynote on 7 GTM motions (date TBD)
GTM Alliance is doing a GTM focused event in San Diego that I am speaking at as a keynote in August 30th
Inbound - i am speaking at Inbound - one of the biggest event in marketing on GTM in September 5th - 8th
Pavilion - a community with 10,000 people is now doing an event solely on GTM event in Nashville in October (even if i don’t speak here i love it because this is moving the GTM conversation forward)
and the list goes on… that shows market momentum as indicated in the chart of what Google is predicting the conversation spike on all things GTM.
on a personal note, we have been thinking about how we instill faith based conversation at home.
just going to Church is not enough.
just sending kids to faith based school is not enough.
sending them to good college and expecting them to do well is not enough.
if anything, it seems like pushing the responsibility of teaching what could be the most important teaching as a parent.
what i am realizing and learning is that it all starts at home with active parenting.
doing Bible study together, as a family - not as a fictitious story time but apologetics with kids and asking them the tough questions is important.
why you believe what you believe?
otherwise, i worry that when the world throws at them all the different ways of thinking, they will have no critical reasoning because we have shielded too much for the reality of the world.
it all starts at home and it all starts now for us.
my wife and i am actually writing our faith journey in our family Will so that the most important legacy won’t be just business and movement, but something that last forever - why we believe what we believe that shapes how we see the world and people around us.
